Problem 

The CEO of a 10B USD international consumer goods company noticed that the culture was riddled with siloed thinking, poor cross-functional collaboration, and a lack of teamwork. The CHRO was tasked with fixing this problem, and he opted to use The Rocket Model™ to train all the company’s people leaders on how to build high performing teams. 

Solution

  • The Head of Talent Management worked with Curphy Leadership Solutions to develop a customized, one-day program that provided leaders with the blocking and tackling skills needed to build teams. The steps involved in creating and delivering this program included: 
  • Several Talent Management staff worked with Curphy Leadership Solutions to design the learning objectives, program agenda, participant materials, and leader guide. The design including using the Team Assessment Survey (TAS) as pre-work and the team improvement tools and leader support materials from Ignition: A Guide to Building High-Performing Teams.
  • Curphy Leadership Solutions delivered a one-day pilot program consisting of twelve people managers and six internal and external trainers. Feedback from the pilot was used to finalize the program design, materials, and leader guide.
  • Curphy Leadership Solutions delivered a two-day Train-The-Trainer workshop for the six internal and external trainers to get them fully up to speed on delivering the program. 

Outcome

  • Approximately 250 people leaders across the globe do TASs and attend  Building High-Performing Teams Leadership Development Programs each year. These programs have been delivered by internal staff for the past five years.
  • Leaders routinely order TASs a year or two after attending programs to check on progress or as part of an on-boarding process when taking over new teams.  Excellent Time 1 and Time 2 TAS improvements have been noted for a number of teams. 
  • The Rocket Model™ has become part of the company’s culture and seen as the go-to solution for building teams.
